RE:       COVID 19 class cancellations and program continuity

I appreciate the patience the OJSH community has shown us as we go through these uncharted waters of COVID 19 requiring class cancellations.

OJSH teaching and support staff have been very busy essentially rerouting how they teach from an in person face-to-face process to an online methodology. We have moved to incorporating the Google suite as our delivery standard within ngps:

  • School email address  firstname.lastname@ngps.ca
  • Google classroom from teachers for their individual courses
  • Google hangout for video and audio conferencing

We also have to take into consideration home device availability and home internet access. We will also have to establish alternatives for students with NO connectivity at home.

On Thursday, March 19th, 2020, OJSH staff are making initial phone call contact to all OJSH families. We are touching base with families and getting family technology information.

Starting on Friday, March 20th, students WHO HAVE A GRADE 12 DIPLOMA CLASS, will receive initial email contact by their teachers. Our plan is to have teachers connect with students a minimum of 2 times a week for at least 30 minutes per session. Grade 12 DIPLOMA teachers will start their sessions as of Monday, March 23rd.

Starting on Wednesday March 25, Grades 8 to11 CORE Subject teachers of: Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies  will start their process of emailing students in their courses. They will establish first dates for course continuity. We have similar expectations of the core Grade 8 to 11 courses having 2 x30 minute sessions per week.

Optional course teachers may contact students by emai to plan some type of program continuity. This will be shared by teachers to a student’s email.

If your Grade 12 DIPLOMA student has not received email contact from their teacher by Monday, March 23rd, please email the school at this address ohs@ngps.ca

If your Grade 8-11 CORE CLASS student has not received email contact from their teacher by Thursday, March 26th, please email the school at this address ohs@ngps.ca

If students have an online ADLC class they are to continue with it, as long as they have internet access.  Please email the school if there are problems  ohs@ngps.ca
